My good friend called me up and asked me to go with him to see his Grandparents. We drove to what seemed like the middle of a corn field to their trailer home and had a nice visit. That was the last time anyone would see his Grandmother alive. We went to her funeral, and in case they would ask me to sing, I brought the music to only 3 songs: Amazing Grace, On Eagles Wings, and Be Not Afraid. The girl in the balcony one by one sang only the songs I brought. Maybe 8 months later, my friend called again and told me his Grandfather was very ill. I broke down and wrote The Love of a Man to sing upon his passing. I believe people bond themselves to their mate so strongly that when the mate passes, the one left is able to will themselves to die. The exact same thing happened to my Grandparents.
THE LOVE OF A MAN
Here he is, a man of strength and love
To some he is a gift from God above
He lived a life so sweet and full of pride
For all he'd accomplished in his time
He took a bride and loved her through and through
And when she died he counted every day
'Till he would go to be with her again
I'm here, now darling hold my hand
We'll be together in this land
And with the help of God's pure light
There clearly is no end in sight
He left behind the people in his life
But now he's gone to work with God above
To be whatever he was meant to be
Side by side with his dear wife, you see
So in your hearts, now keep him close to you
Because he's there and God will see you through
The sweetest man that you'll ever know
It's really true
